Community Collaborative Advisory Table 

This group of 19 community members representing a diversity of local interests is working through a series of workshops between 2023-2026 providing a broad range of perspectives and forms of expertise.

Alison Nicholson

Alison lives by the Koksilah River and has a Masters in Forest Science. She is currently a Director on the CVRD and Cowichan Watershed boards and is pleased to be a member of the Collaborative Community Advisory Table.

Sarah DL

In community service, Sarah is the VP of the CSAA and the chair of the Koksilah Working Group. With many years on the Area E APC she contributes regularly to the MOCP process. Architectural/landscape planning and design is Sarah’s profession and she has an educational background in green/passive building and the Restoration of Natural Systems and Environmental Sciences at UVic.

Dave Lindsay

In 1981, Dave moved beside the Koksilah River and raised 2 daughters in Cowichan Station. After 45 years as a biologist working primarily with the forest industry, Dave has extensive experience in freshwater fish habitat management, forest wildlife habitat management and forest ecosystem management, including the completion of landscape level biodiversity plans for all TimberWest private managed forests.

Lyndsey Smith

Lyndsey is the Program Manager for the Coastal Douglas-fir Conservation Partnership and has been working as a biologist for 20+ years providing land management advice in relation to land use change.

Operations Manager for Blue Grouse Winery in Cowichan Station. Grew up in Cowichan Bay on an artisanal cheese farm.

Born on the island and lived in the Cowichan/Koksilah watershed for the past 30 years. Member of the Cowichan Valley Naturalist Society and Cowichan Estuary Nature Centre.

Pam Jorgenson has spent over 20 years in the forest sector in British Columbia. She has a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from UBC, and is a Registered Professional Forester. She has worked in the BC Interior and Coast, for a range of groups including non-profit organizations, academia, consulting and industry.

Cheri grew up in the Koksilah watershed and continues to live there with her husband Glenn and 2 teenage children. She is a farmer and a biologist that has worked with First Nations for over 25 years in rivers and the ocean. She has been focusing on watershed restoration and has worked on projects from the estuary to the headwaters. Process based restoration has always intrigued her and recently she has been turning her head to understanding more about how to restore the very special rivers in our valley.

Amy Frueh

Katy and her husband John reside on their cherished family farm nestled in Glenora, where they passionately cultivate the land for a healthy community. Their farm serves as both a haven for sustainable agriculture and a thriving community hub at Alderlea Farm Cafe. She is author of two books on farming.

Grew up in Cowichan Bay. Master of Community Planning student; canoe and kayak instructor, and retired outdoor adventure guide.

Pam is the President of Kingburne Valley Community Association and has had that role for going on 6 years (since the conception of the Association). Pam lives on Kingburne Drive and has been there since Dec. 2007, living on 5 acres with her partner and three dogs. She is retired from University of Victoria since 2016.

Born on the river at Frueh Farms, Amy Frueh is a communications specialist and artist who works with environmental organizations.

Gretchen has lived and raised her family by the Koksilah, for 37 years. Community engagement was central to her work as the long-term leader of a local community organization. Serving on the Area E Parks Commission since 2015, with this planning process, Gretchen is interested in connecting people from across our diverse community.

Jeff is the Manager of Environmental Services with the Cowichan Valley Regional District. With degrees in resource & environmental management, natural science, geography, and outdoor recreation, Jeff brings a multi-disciplinary perspective combined with a deep love and respect for the natural world. He has lived in the Cowichan Valley since 2009.

Kristina studies as a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Victoria, she works with community to understand groundwater-surface water interactions in the Xwulqw’selu watershed. A primary goal of this research is for knowledge gained from stream monitoring to stay within community and help inform watershed stewardship
